Having Custom Blades Made for You
One of the most enjoyable things I do is create custom knives and custom hatchets based on the designs and drawings that my customers bring me. Even if you only have a vague idea of the specific design, but know what the blade’s purpose is, I can help you bring the idea into a cold hard steel reality.
Creating custom knives and hatchets is not just my business, it’s my passion.
Step 1: The Template
Once we have the design specifications down, I will go right to work creating the blank template for the custom knife. If you want to be the sole owner of your design, just let me know and I will destroy the template after we are done making your blade so that it will never be made again exactly the same.
Step 2: Cutting and Shaping
The next step is the actual cutting of the steel to the specifications we have determined. The actual technique I use will depend on a number of factors, including the type of steel we are using: I usually go with high carbon for it’s ability to hold a razor sharp edge, but stainless steel varieties may be more suitable for those who work on or around water or in other specific conditions.
Step 3: Forging and Finishing
Now it’s time to heat up the steel and hand hammer it into its elegant final form, a process I enjoy immensely.
Step 4: Sheaths and Handles
I make custom sheaths in both leather and Kydex – the stuff that airplane seats are made from. The choice is yours and, once again, depends on how you are going to use the blade. Water will eventually ruin the natural beauty of leather while Kydex is pretty much storm-proof.
Creating custom knives and hatchets is not just my business, it’s my passion. I keep my prices fair and only charge for the actual time that I spend actively working on the piece. Contact me today to chat more about having a custom blade made for you.
