The History of Every Day Carry Knives (EDC Knives)
The simple all-purpose knife has been the essential human tool since prehistoric times
The simple all-purpose knife has been the essential human tool since prehistoric times, transforming the grasping human hand into a sharp cutting talon with more precision than any beast of the wild. This magical adaptation is largely responsible for several key leaps and bounds in human evolution, from the development of advanced cooking techniques to bloody warfare.
Every Day Carry Knives Today
Despite our high tech modern landscape, Every Day Carry knives are just as popular as they have ever been and selection of styles is at an all-time high. But, truth be told, you can’t improve on perfection, and several of the tried and true old school styles are still the best in my opinion. Here are the Every Day Carry Knife styles that I specialize in, each my own custom take on a favorite classic blade:
Neck knives hang on a cord from around your neck, putting them always in reach when you want them without the need to be drawn from a sheath or pocket. My neck knives come in a variety of styles and sizes.
From the Tanto, which is based on a traditional Japanese design, to my Scramasax, a medieval blade from Germanic tribes in northern Europe, I make highly functional belt knives that often incorporate the best elements of design from around the world and throughout history.
I absolutely love to create custom Everyday Carry Knives based on your own design. It’s a pleasure to work with people who know what they want, and it allows me to play with this form in new ways. I can also design a new blade for you if you have a specific purpose or idea that might require a new form, and many times this leads to the creation of a brand new knife style that I will continue to produce – unless of course you want it to be your own one-of-a-kind, in which case I will destroy the pattern after we create it.
